Every fan has their own opinion about General Hospital, and Soap Hub is no different. We watched everything—the good, the bad, and everything in between—for five days, and now we’re here to give you a helpful recap and a lighthearted analysis of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: The Critic’s POV

No offense to Maurice Benard, but I’ve never been able to understand General Hospital’s obsession with “Good Guy Mobster” Sonny Corinthos. For this reason, it has been particularly grating to watch practically everyone exhaust themselves this week defending Sonny’s moral character and/or criticizing the justice system for actually locking up an outspoken criminal.

Former police commissioners are actively investigating who might have tipped off the authorities about Sonny’s drug dealing, and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), who Sonny shot dead in the chest, is complaining that his father might actually have to stand trial for his crimes.

The only place where people protest when actual lawbreakers are brought to justice is Port Charles. Just take a look at those of you who complain that Carly (Laura Wright) should be held accountable for her insider trading because Nina (Cynthia Watros) wants to. Contrary to Nina, who just did something morally repugnant by failing to inform Sonny’s family of his whereabouts or amnesiac condition, Carly broke the law—the real law—and Nina is the embodiment of evil. The truth is, they are both just…just terrible, so choosing to believe that is a choice.]

But when you build your show around a character who, on any other soap opera, would be portrayed as a villain instead of one of the good guys, this is what happens.

Further GH Musings

  • Portia (Brook Kerr) is not only the worst on principle, but she has also just made Anna (Finola Hughes) cry. I say burn her at the stake! [And sarcasm for everyone who has trouble picking it up.]
  • Praise be, there is finally some real forward movement in Sasha’s (Sofia Mattsson) torturous porn storyline. Let’s continue!

Weekdays, ABC broadcasts General Hospital. For airtimes, check your neighborhood listings. Check out the most recent GH spoilers for more information about what will happen in Port Charles, and click here for a detailed look at the show’s history.
