Coronation Street's Roy Cropper star issues five-word response over prison twist

Coronation Street legend David Neilson, who plays Roy Cropper, has opened up about his character’s current storyline, which has seen him charged with the murder of Lauren Bolton

David Neilson, a beloved character on Coronation Street, has commented on the intense prison narrative involving Roy Cropper.

Roy was recently charged and placed under custody as the main suspect in the alleged murder of Lauren Bolton, a teenage girl who went missing. This year, a troubled teen vanished from the cobblestones inexplicably, leaving her boyfriend Bobby concerned when he found her apartment unoccupied and unlocked.

It doesn’t appear that Lauren told anyone other than Roy about her intention to leave Weatherfield because her departure was never depicted on TV. Because of his good heart, Roy gained attention after Bobby reported Lauren missing. He was seen tidily cleaning Lauren’s apartment, which some saw as an attempt to remove evidence.

Roy’s kindness landed him in further trouble last week when Lauren’s supposed mother ‘Kerry’ arrived on the cobbles. Trying to help, Roy offered her a place to stay, but it backfired horribly.

“Kerry” turned out to be a lady named Alice, who was secretly photographing everything while posing as Roy’s guest and accusing him of being a murderer.

Alice continued to harass Roy and even record him after she found out who she really was. She also brought up the subject of Roy’s late wife, Hayley Cropper. Roy was stunned to hear about Hayley and grabbed Alice’s phone, according to the Mirror.

Alice sliced her skull in the battle that followed. After reporting Roy to the police for assault, it came to light during questioning that Roy was also accused of killing Lauren.

When This Morning’s soap expert Sharon Marshall discussed Roy’s situation on Tuesday, April 16, the actor who plays Roy, David Neilson, had a concise five-word response: “He’s his own worst enemy!”

“I mean, he needs support from himself, he puts himself there,” David went on. “I find it incredible that I, Roy, have never served time in prison as all of the Coronation Street characters have.”

In a startling turn of events, it seems that Roy might be “tricked into confessing” to Lauren’s murder the next week.
