Viewers of EastEnders recently witnessed Whitney Dean and partner Zack Hudson make the decision to foster children in order to start a family.

Whitney Dean, portrayed by Shona McGarty, is about to learn some very important information about her future.

Fans of the BBC soap opera saw heartbreaking scenes earlier this year as she struggled with the decision to end her pregnancy.

The couple discovered their unborn baby girl, whom they named Peach, had Edwards’ Syndrome after becoming pregnant with Zack Hudson’s (James Farrar) child.

Whitney experienced grief after being fired, as well as mental and emotional anguish.

The couple decided to pursue foster care because they still desired to start a family but did not want to subject her body to another pregnancy.

Whitney and Zack acquired their own apartment as their foster care journey got underway after leaving the home of Whitney’s best friend, Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams).

According to confirmed soap opera spoilers, the couple meets with Jan, a social worker, for a fostering assessment the following week.

Whitney must discuss challenging aspects of her past, including the abuse she endured from Tony King (Chris Coghill), and this appointment triggers some old trauma for her.

She worries that revealing what happened to her all those years ago will have an adverse effect on their chances of becoming foster parents after Jan departs.

Whitney and Zack are on edge as they wait for Jan to show up later in the week to give them an update.

She is excited to let them know that they have both been accepted for the next phase, though, as she feels they have a lot to offer foster children.

Whitney and Zack are overjoyed by the news and get ready to take the next step toward parenthood.

However, their foster story may take a tragic turn now that actress Shona McGarty has left the BBC soap opera after 15 years.

She explained her decision to leave EastEnders to The Sun, saying: “I have decided to spread my wings and will be leaving. My time on the show has been fantastic.

“Some incredible storylines have been trusted to me, and I have developed incredible friendships and a lasting family.”

Will Zack, a character played by James Farrar, follow Whitney out of the Square as a result of this?
