Home and Away viewers raised the same question after Summer Bay detective Cash Newman refused to return to his job in the force after learning he was being demoted

After Cash left the police department, Home and Away supporters called attention to a clear mistake.

Following his suspension from the force, Cash (Nicholas Cartwright) has been living without a job for the past few months. His silence over Dana (Ally Harris) seeking sanctuary in Irene’s (Lynne McGranger) home led to his suspension.

Detective Madden, a shady police officer, set Dana up on a drug charge and then abducted and attempted to kill her. Even after Cash detained Madden and established Dana’s innocence, he was barred from his job while the matter was looked into.

Cash’s suspension review was received during the Channel 5 soap opera’s Friday, March 15, episode. The call from the station he had been waiting for eventually arrived later in the evening.

But it wasn’t the outcome he had hoped for. Cash was told that he could have his job back, however he would be demoted and placed on restricted duties.

Wounded by the offer, Cash told his former colleagues that he wouldn’t be returning to work. Amongst the drama, fans questioned how the suspended Summer Bay cop has been surviving financially after being forced on leave.

They touched upon the same subject regarding Cash’s girlfriend Eden (Stephanie Pannozzo). Fans will know Eden is a member of the band Lyrik, who only recently got back together following Kirby’s (Angelina Thomson) return.

In the months that Kirby was flying solo, Lyrik were barely performing. And only last week, Eden was kidnapped by two men who also left Remi (Adam Rowland) in critical condition.

With the band unable to perform, one fan took to a Home and Away Facebook group to share their thoughts. They wrote: “Three months without pay. And Eden barely does enough gigs. How do they pay their bills?”

Another commented: “Have often wondered that and also for all the coffees they have lol.” A third joked: “Who needs money in Summer Bay?”
