Carla Connor of Coronation Street is experiencing new heartbreak as a result of Peter Barlow leaving the cobbles behind to start over in Spain.

Carla Connor, played by Alison King on Coronation Street, is about to suffer a severe blow after being horrified by images of Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) on the ITV soap opera.

Peter recently ran over and killed serial killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce), leaving behind the cobbles and his criminal past. He told his AA group that he was desperate for a significant change in his life and was having a hard time dealing with the guilt of taking a life.

Carla gave him the one-way plane ticket for Christmas, which eased his decision, since he had been offered a job on a boat in Spain. She decided, in heartbreaking scenes, to stay in Weatherfield while he moved on to live his new ideal life.

They said a tearful goodbye, bringing their love story to a lovely close. Carla told Peter they would have to stop talking for a while or face starting over from scratch, and while Peter hoped they could stay in touch, she didn’t think it was a good idea.

Carla, though, is about to experience heartbreak once more. She confesses to missing Peter in a heartfelt conversation with Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) in later scenes.

When Simon (Alex Bain), who has also been missing his father, shows her some images of life on board the ship, her heart breaks.

Despite Simon’s feelings of abandonment, Peter extended an offer to work on the yacht in an attempt to support his son.

Simon is thrilled to have been given this wonderful opportunity, but Carla is shocked to see that one of the pictures shows Peter embracing a woman.

Actor Alex Bain appears to have ‘confirmed’ Simon’s departure already, indicating that his 15-year stay at Weatherfield is coming to an end.

The soap opera star posted a picture from his dressing room last month, just before filming his last scenes.

He uploaded the picture to his Instagram story with the caption, “It’s hard to believe this is almost over! I will really, really miss this place!”
