Hold me in your arms, don’t let me go…

There have been many breakups and makeups on Home And Away over the years.

Despite the rough times, these couples either lasted the distance – or were torn apart by tragic circumstances.

From Alf and Alisa to Shane and Angel and many more – take a trip down memory lane as we reflect on some of our favourite Summer Bay romances.

Scroll down to see who made our list.

Alf & Ailsa: In 1988, Alf (Ray Meagher) and Ailsa (Judy Nunn) tied the knot in Summer Bay. They welcomed their son, Duncan, into the world the following year. Despite some hard times over the years, Alf and Ailsa were married until Ailsa’s death in 2001.

An undiscovered heart condition caused Ailsa’s sudden death and shortly after Alf suffered a nervous breakdown. He began seeing visions of his late wife, but these turned out to be the side effects of a brain tumour.

Brax & Charlie: Beloved couple Brax (Stephen Peacocke) & Charlie (Esther Anderson) didn’t have the easiest time getting together. The fact that Charlie was a police officer and Brax was a part of an infamous gang forced the pair to hide their relationship. Thankfully the couple managed make things work and even decided to move to the city together.

Unfortunately Charlie was shot twice by Jake Pirovic (Fletcher Humphrys) and despite the hospital’s best attempts, her daughter Ruby (Rebecca Breeds) and Brax was forced to turn off her life support.

Flynn & Sally: When Flynn moved to Summer Bay in 2001 there was an instant connection between the doctor and Sally (Kate Ritchie). The couple stayed strong through tough times, including Sally’s inability to have children of her own. Luckily Sally’s best friend Leah (Ada Nicodemou) acted as surrogate for the couple and gave birth to their daughter Pippa.

However, it wasn’t to be for Sally and Flynn when the doctor was diagnosed with skin cancer. In one of the most emotional episodes ever, Flynn (Joel Mcllroy) said his goodbyes to Cassie (Sharni Vinson), Alf (Ray Meagher) and Rick (Mark Furze), and then he and Sally danced to their wedding song and he passed away in her arms a short time later.

Despite some tumultuous times, Jack (Paul O’Brien) and Martha (Jodi Anasta) genuinely loved one another and were prematurely torn apart. They were able to persevere through numerous breakups and even the revelation that Roman (Conrad Coleby) was the father of Martha’s child. Sadly, Jack was killed by a gunshot from Angelo (Luke Jacobz), leaving Martha to fight cancer alone.

Leah and Vinnie: Leah (Ada Nicodemou), who had just fled her wedding to Ted, first encountered Vinnie (Ryan Kwantan). After getting to know each other better, Leah and Vinnie soon got married in a unique ceremony that combined Leah’s Greek and Vinnie’s Scottish heritages.

Unfortunately things didn’t work out for the couple when Vinnie was arrested for fraud. In 2010, Elijah, played by Jay Laga’aia, revealed to Leah that Vinnie had passed away 18 months earlier in a farming accident.

Robbie & Tasha: Robbie Hunter (Jason Smith) tried to catch Tasha Andrews’ (Isabel Lucas) with a trap when she was living by herself in the bush. Their relationship was rocky from the beginning. Tasha’s fling with Kim Hyde (Chris Hemsworth) didn’t help things either. However, Robbie and Tasha eventually got married and moved to America with Tasha’s daughter Ella.

Aden and Belle: Aden (Todd Lasance) and Belle (Jessica Tovey) had a complicated relationship. Early on in their courtship, Aden had a serious breakdown that caused Belle to fall into Angelo’s arms. This didn’t last long because the couple quickly got back together and got engaged.

The pair got married even though Belle had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and didn’t have much time left. Shortly after they returned from their honeymoon, Belle passed away in Aden’s arms.

Charlie (Esther Anderson) was always going to be difficult for Home And Away to follow, but they really hit the mark when they added Ricky (Bonnie Sveen). At Heath Braxton’s (Dan Ewing) engagement party, Ricky, a friend of the Braxton family, first showed there.

Initially, Matilda’s mother Beth didn’t approve her relationship with Ric (Mark Furze), who is played by Indiana Evans. The couple persevered and ultimately remained together for a considerable amount of time. Sadly, the couple’s relationship ended because of Rics’ affair with Viv (Simone McAullay). The couple couldn’t even be separated by Matilda’s relocation to Perth, and Ric immediately travelled to see her. After reuniting, the couple’s last image was of them sharing a kiss.

Angel, a runaway girl, met Shane (Melissa George) when she first came in Summer Bay in 1993. (Dieter Brummer). When Shane learned that Angel had a son at the age of 14, the couple momentarily split up. Shane was pleasantly surprised by Dylan, Angel’s son, and the two quickly got back together.

Shane and Angel were planning their wedding when Alf (Ray Meagher) accidentally ran Angel down with his car. This forced Angel to tie the knot in a wheelchair but she did manage to walk down the aisle. Whilst Angel was pregnant with the couple’s child, Shane tragically passed away following a motorbike accident and he died in her arms.

Hayley & Noah: One of Summer Bay’s golden couples, Noah (Beau Brady) and Hayley (Bec Cartwright) were ripped apart too early. After a few months of being on and off again the couple finally got back together after Hayley was involved in a car accident with Brodie (Susie Rugg). Noah proposed to Hayley on her 21st birthday and she happily accepted. The young couple tied the knot overlooking the beach and Hayley’s dead father Ken (Anthony Phelan) appeared to Hayley and walked her down the aisle.

In a tragic turn of events, Hayley and Noah’s marriage was cut short when Noah was shot dead by Sarah Lewis (Luisa Hastings-Edge) during a siege where she was holding a number of Summer Bay resident’s hostag

Heath & Bianca: Heath (Dan Ewing) and Bianca (Lisa Gormley) had a rocky beginning to their relationship, much like Charlie (Esther Anderson) and Brax (Stephen Peacocke). After getting married to Liam (Axel Whitehead), Bianca found out she was pregnant and assumed Liam was the father. Heath was found to be Bianca’s father after all!

They eventually got back together, but were devastated when their son Rocco died of SIDS. The pair briefly split up, got back together, got married, and then left the Bay. When they were having marital issues the previous year, Heath and Bianca moved back to the Bay. Thankfully, they were able to resolve issues, and they returned home content and in love.

Marilyn & John: Our favourite relationship of Marilyn’s (Emily Symons) has to be her and John (Shane Withington)! This couple have had some terrible times but continue to stick by each other’s side. When an accident in the diner caused Marilyn to completely lose her memory, including all recollection of John and their wedding day, John continued to support her.

Fortunately, Marilyn was able to regain her memory, but the couple suffered another setback when John was found to have a brain tumor. The tumour completely altered John’s behavior, causing him to start a fire in the Bay that ultimately killed Billie. The couple is still together in spite of this!
