Paul Foreman's health plot hole confounds Coronation Street viewers

Paul Foreman of Coronation Street is still adjusting to his catastrophic Motor Neurone Disease (MND) diagnosis and is learning how to use a wheelchair to go around.

How Paul Foreman (played by Peter Ash) is able to use a wheelchair although he was meant to have lost the use of one of his arms has been a source of confusion for Coronation Street viewers.

The Cobbles character lost the use of his hand earlier this year, which led him to learn that he had motor neurone illness (MDN).

Paul has been able to use the wheelchair on his own after Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) bought him a pair of gloves to protect his hands from wheelchair scratches in a recent episode of the ITV soap opera.

However, astute viewers have noted, Paul shouldn’t be able to use one of his hands, making it difficult for him to move around in a wheelchair by himself.

Many people asked about the narrative error on social media. For example, Twitter user @a___w89 said: “How come Paul can use BOTH hands to use his wheelchair!? But now, #corrie, he can’t use both for routine duties.

So Paul has the power and ability in his hands and arms to propel his wheelchair on his own, right? I believed they were also in peril. #Corrie.”

Then why did Paul’s right arm suddenly regain all of its strength? #Corrie,” tweeted @HullCity52.

On Instagram, several users were expressing the same sentiments. One user wrote: “Lol Paul can move his both hand his wheelchair, notice that.”

A second person said, “Paul’s right arm is miraculously working.”

A third person said, “It’s wrong for Paul to get his arm back so he can use his wheelchair.

Anyone note how Paul can now maneuver his wheelchair with both arms? Another viewer complained, “This writing is shocking right now. It’s the producer Ian McLeod. Ever since he took over a number of years ago, Corrie went downhill.”
