Fans face major disappointment tonight with both Emmerdale and Coronation Street being cancelled in a major schedule change.
The decision to cancel Emmerdale and Coronation in favor of UEFA Euro 2024 Live is certain to anger viewers. The ITV soap operas won’t be airing today, and fans will have to endure months of schedule turmoil, which will only make things worse.
To accommodate tonight’s big game, the long-running soap operas have been changed off the regular schedule. Germany vs. Scotland, the Euros Group A match, is on ITV.
And since the football competition is scheduled to go through July, fans who are hoping to watch their favorite shows will be in for soap opera turmoil.
For fans of soap operas, the General Election will further exacerbate the situation by necessitating alterations to current schedules.
It will be a very difficult summer for the soap operas, with Wimbledon wreaking havoc with broadcasts, so EastEnders is not exempt from schedule upheaval.
Due to a scheduling conflict with the much awaited game, Emmerdale and Coronation Street were taken off the air on Friday night.
Emmerdale typically broadcasts half-hour episodes during the week, with an hour-long installment on Thursdays.
Conversely, Coronation Street airs for an hour at 8 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
The TV guide indicates that Coronation Street will air on Tuesday, June 17, despite ITV having not officially addressed the schedule change. It was also canceled on Monday night.
The same applies to Emmerdale, which on June 18 will air for an hour.
