EASTENDERS fans may be forced to say goodbye to an iconic character when heartbreak takes its toll in Walford.

One of EastEnders’ most beloved couples recently suffered a breakup when Callum Highway (Tony Clay), believing Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) to have willfully spent the night with another guy, stormed out on them. Callum is clueless. Official BBC soap spoilers indicate that when Lewis Butler (Aidan O’Callaghan) sexually assaulted his husband, the couple may never get the chance to reconcile since Ben puts himself in grave danger.

The following week’s episodes will continue Kathy Beale’s (Gillian Taylforth) concern over her son’s mental health.

When she learns James spent the night with Ben, she is not impressed.
She reminds him that his daughter has a dancing exam later while she and the boy talk about their plans for the evening.
Ben tells his mother that he won’t ruin Lexi’s day and that he’ll be there at the family dinner later in the day.
Suki Panesar (Balinder Sopal) wants to make amends with Kheerat Panesar at the Minute Mart (Jaz Deol).

But when they realize Ben is overhearing their talk, tensions increase.

The Mitchell bad guy tries to give counsel to Kheerat, his former friend, but she is uninterested.
Later, Ben is running late for Lexi’s exam, and his daughter finds it difficult to conceal her displeasure.
Things get worse when he explains his delay, and Ben struggles with regret.
When Lexi tells her father that she misses the old Ben, he becomes enraged and yells at her.

The little girl is shocked by her father’s insults and sobs inconsolably.

Ben seeks out Tez for narcotics in an effort to dull the anguish he’s experiencing.
Ben is cautioned by Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) to get his act together when she notices the interaction.
Ben forgets about the supper with his family and instead meets James at a party where they both engage in drug use.

James sends Ben home as he battles to remain emotionally stable.

The businessman from Mitchell realizes where he needs to be and calls his daughter to inform her that he is on his way.
But catastrophe comes, and the single father passes out in the street.
When Lexi learns her father won’t be at her supper, she is distraught.
Her family tries to console her, but when Lexi plays the voicemail from Ben, their anger becomes to concern.
In a haste to locate him, Kathy, Callum, and Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) worry that it may be too late.
Will it be too late when the trio discovers him without a pulse and urgently calls for assistance?

Ben is taken to the hospital by paramedics, but EastEnders viewers will have to wait to learn if he will survive.

Could Ben’s battle with his marriage’s dissolution result in his tragic and untimely demise?
