‘Started to panic!’ Doctor Who star recalls terror as she struggled to breathe in costume

DOCTOR WHO actress Annette Badland has recalled “struggling to breath” whilst filming the very first episode of Russell T Davies’ series in an exclusive interview .

When getting her Doctor Who outfit fitted, Annette Badland recalled feeling “panicked” and having trouble breathing. In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, the actor, who portrayed the notorious Slitheen Margaret Blaine, remembered filming the very first episode of the Doctor Who revival. Over the years, Annette, 71, has contributed to some of the largest television programs in the UK, including Doctor Who. She said, when asked what it was like to play the lead slitheen, “I was never in the costume! I was not required to wear it. “I was made to practice a lot since there was actually a lot of 6 foot tall males, so I had to wear the arm when I tried to choke Billie (Piper). One girl was present.”When the heads were removed, all that could be seen were sweaty foreheads and a pair of helpless eyes. Then, they would ask for some water or a cigarette, and the heads would be put back on. She laughed.

Annette continued by describing how she had started to freak out during the fitting of her head cast.
They put a prosthetic zip on her forehead, adding that she also had to wear a full head cast.
“You have to have a lot of straws in your nose and other things, and they show you these hand signals in case you start to panic and think you can’t breathe any more.
“After approximately 20 minutes, I started to worry and exclaim, ‘Oh I can’t do this, I can’t breathe!'”

Annette proceeded by telling how she had begun to panic while having her head cast fitted.
She had to wear a full head cast and have a prosthetic zip placed on her forehead.
They demonstrate these hand signals in case you start to feel anxious and think you can’t breathe any longer. “You have to have a lot of straws in your nose and other things.”
I started to worry and exclaim, “Oh I can’t do this, I can’t breathe!” after about 20 minutes.

Additionally, because it is constructed of plaster of Paris, everything is slightly pulled down.
“I was genuinely taken aback by the color. I came over and gazed at my face; they had captured me with the most minute features and marks.
However, it appeared to be a death mask! I like to think it now has its own little life, she admitted, “but they kind of rushed me into this room all eager and I just went ‘Oh’. My head travels all over England! “Annette has portrayed many iconic characters on television over the years, including fan favorite Fleur Perkins in Midsomer Murders since 2019. She also portrayed Babe Smith in EastEnders until 2017, when her character cursed her family after she put a curse on her character’s family after an incident.
