Actress Lynne McGranger has been in a relationship with her partner Paul McWaters for almost 40 years, in contrast to Irene Roberts, who has had a problematic love life in Summer Bay.

For 30 years, Lynne McGranger has been a mainstay on television as the star of Home and Away.

The actress first gained notoriety in 1993 for her role as Irene Roberts, and since then, she has remained a cast member on the well-liked Australian soap opera for the longest period of time.

Furthermore, Lynne has undoubtedly been a part of a number of significant plotlines, including the one she is currently following.

This week, after her friend and temporary roommate John Palmer moved back into his own place, viewers of the venerable soap opera will witness Irene suffering from feelings of loneliness.

Actress Lynne has been in a relationship with her partner Paul McWaters for almost 40 years, despite the fact that her on-screen character in Summer Bay has a troubled love life.

The Daily Star is exploring the Home & Away actress’ 39-year relationship with her partner as events for Irene take an emotional turn.

39-year relationship

Aussie soap star Lynne and Paul have been together for a whopping 39 years.

Despite keeping their relationship pretty low-key, Lynne opened up about their romance back in 2014 where she recalled how they met.

Speaking to New Idea, she said: “I invited him round to my place in 1984 [after having dinner together] and he never went home. Still hasn’t.”

Additionally, Lynne reportedly credits her boyfriend for her wildly successful run on Home and Away.

She told Woman’s Day, “Aside from being a wonderful man, if it weren’t for him I wouldn’t have been able to do what I’ve done on Home And Away.

“He took over as Clancy’s primary caregiver and househusband. He’s incredible. We still make each other laugh and enjoy each other’s company.

Waiting for proposal

Despite all the milestone years the happy couple have had, the two are in no rush to get married.

Lynne said: “I’m still waiting [for him to propose].

“We always joke and say we’ll do it when we want some white goods, and I’m here to tell you now, we need a new washing machine!”

But Lynne does have plans for when the two do say their “I do’s” and tie the knot.

“If we do get married it will probably be a barbecue in the backyard,” she said.

Heartbreaking miscarriage

The couple has a daughter named Clancy, but Lynne experienced heartache in 1996 when she miscarried her second child.

In an interview with TV Week, Lynne bravely disclosed that she miscarried in 1996, when Clancy was only five years old.

Additionally, Lynne’s miscarriage occurred around the same time that her soap opera character Irene Roberts announced her pregnancy.

“I clearly recall the incident. I just started crying as Irene was displaying the images of the unborn child, the woman admitted.

She also described the storyline experience as “traumatic and bumpy,” but she was grateful for the cast and crew’s support on set.
