Coronation Street’s Simon Barlow, played by Alex Bain, is gearing up for his cobbles exit – and now the soap star has revealed to fans his stint on the show is “nearly over”
The actor Alex Bain of Coronation Street revealed that his time on the ITV soap opera is “nearly over.”
Since he was seven years old, the actor has portrayed Simon Barlow on the ITV serial opera. He first appeared on the cobbles in 2008 and has been there ever since. He is the son of Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).
Alex has been a part of several dramatic and memorable stories on Corrie, ranging from drug selling to assaulting the character of on-screen stepmother Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson). He has also won numerous accolades for his performance as Simon over the years.
However, in December last year, it was reported that Alex was quitting the soap after 15 years. Now, the actor has issued an update on ahead of his exit from the ITV show.
On Thursday, April 11, Alex posted a mirror selfie to his Instagram Story from the Corrie dressing room. In the caption, he said, “It’s hard to realize this is almost done! I will really, really miss this location!”
“Alex is sad to be leaving Coronation Street because it really is like a family— but he realizes that the time is right to move on,” a source said to The Sun back in 2023.
“He is incredibly enthusiastic about the future and upcoming opportunities.” Additionally, according to the tabloid, Alex will end with a “explosive storyline this summer.”
Alex announced his departure in March while opening up in a moving article. “Well, my day is done!” the celebrity tweeted, attaching a photo of himself in his dressing room.
“Today was a nice, brief day! I will really miss this small area when I leave.” “I’m so glad I have a few more days to shoot!” he continued. Really appreciative!”
Alex’s exit from the show will come after that of his on-screen father, Chris Gascoyne, who departed last week after 23 years of portraying Peter Barlow. After killing Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) at the conclusion of the previous year, he made a tragic exit from the Cobbles.
Due to his inability to handle his father’s abrupt departure, Simon has begun abusing alcohol. His current downward slide may have anything to do with his departure.
